THE IRISH NEWS unveiled the winners today of their highly contested IRISH NEWS Ulster Club Awards. The Awards initiative recognizes and rewards GAA Clubs and Schools throughout Ulster for their commitment to the game irrespective of their playing ability. The winning Ulster club in each category (City, Town, Rural and Development of Underage Players) were awarded a £1,500 IRISH NEWS development cheque, a £1,000 O’Neills Sports Wear voucher, and an IRISH NEWS Platinum website development package. The highly commended Clubs each received a £750 IRISH NEWS development cheque.

Noel Doran Editor of THE IRISH NEWS, congratulated all the clubs that received awards adding that ‘the Irish News club awards are tangible proof that the club is indeed the foundation of GAA.’

He added, ‘the Irish News Club Awards have proven to be overwhelmingly successful, both as recognition for the winning clubs and as a means of offering financial assistance to clubs. We were simply over-whelmed by the huge response to our awards and delighted that we can help support grassroots GAA across Ulster.’

Karla Quinn Marketing Executive for Club Energise Sport said, ‘The introduction of the Ulster Club Awards by the Irish News has provided Club Energise Sport with an excellent platform to support club development and we also salute the incredible commitment and dedication provided by GAA club members throughout Ulster. ‘We would like to congratulate the Irish News on their initiative in organising and promoting the Ulster Club Awards. They have now become a major feature within the GAA calendar. It is a wonderful opportunity to recognise and reward GAA clubs regardless of their size and location.’

Winner: Teemore Shamrock GFC (Co Fermanagh)
Highly Commended: Setanta, Fintona (Co Tyrone)

PRIMARY SCHOOL Award
Winner: Christian Brothers' PS, Armagh (Co Armagh)
SECOND LEVEL SCHOOL Award
Winner: St Malachy's High School, Castlewellan (Co Down)
