Over 35 7-a-side Memorial Tournament for Pat Rice

Over 35 7-a-side Memorial Tournament for Pat Rice at St Teresa's, Saturday 6th May 2006

Pat Rice Tournament
The recent loss of Pat Rice was huge shock to us all. We will of course remember Pat in our own individual way but as a club we want to ensure that we mark his passing in a way which befits the time and effort that he devoted to Éire Óg throughout his life. With the support of Mary and the rest of the Rice family our intention is to organise a number of events in Pat’s memory throughout this year and indeed next year which will be the club’s 75th anniversary.

Our first such event is an Over 35 - 7 a side football tournament on Saturday 6 May 2006 starting at 2.45pm at the St Teresa’s club on the Glen Road. St Teresa’s have very kindly lent us their two pitches and the club house afterwards and we have invited a number of clubs to enter. But we also want to enter 6 teams ourselves as going through the list of past players there is no shortage of names. We will be running a separate section for the Ógs teams so that current Ógs senior players including Pat’s sons Declan and Niall can be mixed with the past players teams. This should also ease the pressure on those who may not be as fit as they once were or indeed thought they were.

For each of the Ógs teams we have ‘volunteered’ the following management dream teams:
Team 1 Matt Morgan & Sean Rice
Team 2 Bobby Rice & Alec McGoran
Team 3 Johnny Smye & Hugh McPoland
Team 4 Micky Murphy & Gerry Hodginson
Team 5 Jim Dalzell & Gerry Henvey
Team 6 Brendan McPoland & Brendy Downey

As a former Ógs player and team mate of Pat’s we want you to participate. Can I therefore ask you to contact either myself (94 423799) or Matt Morgan (90613693) or Brendan McPoland (0773977373) if you intend playing so we can finalise the teams.

The tournament should be over by 6.00 pm and this will be followed by some food and entertainment in the club house. We plan to make a presentation to Mary as a signal of our (Ógs past and present) appreciation of the work that Pat did for the club. If you can’t make the tournament please come along for the ‘afters’.
